The foundation of your memoir will be two interviews. The first one is an exploration of your topic and will probably take an hour to an hour and half. The second one will finetune the story, with your corrections, additions and omissions. Petra will also ask additional questions and conduct extra research.
Step 1
Let's chat
Meet with Petra in person over a coffee and cake (Covid permitting) and let's dicuss your life story. If preferred, the initial meeting can be conducted online for example via Zoom. During such a meeting, Petra will give or ask a set of questions as a guideline for the first interview, and the process will be discussed. Some ideas may also be discussed, for example whether the memoir should focus on one life event or a blueprint of a life including a family tree.
Step 2
First Interview
The interview will be recorded (please read our Privacy Policy) and form the basis of the memoir. Petra transcribes the tape and writes a draft memoir, adding additional information conducted via any necessary research, for example the conditions of labour on a tobacco farm. A set with additional questions will be given to the client.
Step 3
Read of First Draft
Upon receiving the first draft, the client reads the draft and provides answers to any further questions asked by the author. The client corrects the draft, adds information and/or deletes information. It's your story, and you have full control on what is narrated.
Step 4
Second Draft
Taking all information into account, Petra writes a second draft. A second meeting is arranged, and the second draft will be discussed. This interview will be recorded (please read our Privacy Policy).
Step 5
Final Step
The final draft is written. If the client wants an extra interview this will be conducted for an additional cost. The final memoir will be submitted via email and USB-sticks. Therefore children, grandchildren or friends can easily expand your memoir to an ongoing chronicle. It will not only give insight into the family's past but also in important life events, such as the Covid-19 crisis. It will tell the personal story about the astonishing impact on everyday life. Additional elements such as photos, family recipes, cover, binding and printing can be discussed.
