Meet Petra Goor
When a teacher would tell children to do something for themselves, most of them drew a picture. Not Petra. She read a book or wrote a story. She is grateful to have been able to follow her passion in both her academic and professional life.
Petra was born and raised in The Netherlands. She migrated to Australia in 2000 and has always had a passion for reading and writing. She holds a master’s degree in Language and Literature from Tilburg University (The Netherlands) and a MPhil (master’s degree) in Creative Writing from the University of Queensland.
Petra has worked as an advertising copywriter, journalist, an academic writer and a novelist. Writing memoirs is rewarding. Especially for the new Australians who are all migrants it is important to know where they come from. Knowing your ancestors can also be helpful when your GP asks: "Does this condition
run in the family?" Having your memoir written may give you a sense of accomplishment, a better understanding of your life, and probably something to laugh about. The question is not 'Why a memoir?' but 'Why not.'
